Android 2.4 (Ice Cream) to be released in June or July 2011?

According to blog Pocket-lint, yes. The publication has filed a report citing “multiple sources familiar with the matter” stating that Android 2.4 — code named Ice Cream — will be released in June or July of this year. The mobile operating system’s nicknames are based on tasty dessert treats and are named in alphabetical order:
  • Cupcake
  • Donut
  • Eclair
  • Froyo
  • Gingerbread
  • Honeycomb
  • Ice Cream
No details about potential new features or improvements were provided. What do you think? Does a June/July timeframe for Android 2.4 make sense to you?

Android 2.1 available now for HTC Hero's in South Africa

I finally got Android 2.2 on my HTC Hero!!! I went to MTN in the Pavilion shopping centre (Westville, Durban) and got the update in 10 minutes. The man that loaded it for me was very kind, I'm Vodacom and he did the upgrade for me for free one-time. You can get the update at any Leaf Wireless or Lab88 in South-Africa. The update is not yet out OTA (Over The Air) or available at any Vodacom, MTN, CellC or Virgin Mobile store to be downloaded.

Remember to back-up all your data before going for the upgrade!

What's different with Android 2.1 (Eclair)?

- The phone runs much faster
- The browser loads websites faster
- New Wallpaper and UI (User Interface)
- You can now view all 7 homescreens on one screen in 7 small windows
- New Android Market with more new apps
- You can see weather effects on the homescreen
- All tab icons on menus are in colour.
- A lot of new icons and effects
- Much faster responding camera and new functions
- Import all your Facebook friends one-shot to your Contacts
- New icons on all HTC apps
- Better battery life
- Add more than one Gmail account
- Improved keyboard layout, for much faster and easier typing
- Bluetooth 2.1

And much much more that you must experience yourself

But no 3D Gallery & Live Wallpapers! They said that the HTC Hero won't handle it :(

But anyway. It's AWESOME!!! Now we just hope Leaf Wireless will throw Android 2.2 (Froyo) to us like they said in my email. They are targeting mid November 2010.
